Re: 7x01 - 7x02 Discussion / 8:00am - 10:00am

I'm still processing, but my real initial thought is I love how there taking everything so patiently, every key scene and event is timed almost perfectly.

And the end of episode two, they didn't blow anything up, it wasn't a shouting match it was simply an emotional "What Happened to You? ... What the Hell Happened to You!?" and Tony just gave that "even you wouldn't understand Jack" stare. (Care to discuss your reaction at that look J_A? ;-)

Also: Important Fact of the Week in understanding the Almeida's true purpose "we've been doing this for three years" - discuss.

Re: 7x01 - 7x02 Discussion / 8:00am - 10:00am

Dan, I've already gone beyond these two eps and I know the answer to all those looks... but oh my... Tony is making me melt in my seat... He's damn hot still... I will admit  i'm very happy that tony is getting lots of action. and that the brotherhood is alive, that jack never believed that tony is evil, like a brother should! I love that tony is getting so much screen time, it really looks like they're giving us the candy we've been screaming for, and it was great that we finally got the fistfight we never got in season 2, and that tony got to do krav maga on jack and.. the looks, the brotherhood, the bits and pieces, the tension between jack and tony, and tony on screen... it's great.

you know, i've been thinking about writing something but for now, i'm still just in the babbling stage because i'm still on a high. my drug is back, and it's back in my veins. I'm a junkie again! (you wanted to hear that, right? big_smile). i'll probably try to scramble my thoughts together on the eps 1-4 at some point.

that being said, it's nothing new somehow. they're back to the roots. in a good way, but as far as storytelling goes, so far, it is going exactly down those routes that I thought it would go to. no surprises so far. and quite honestly, the "What the hell happened to you" phrase was right out of the Saunders book, and made me cringe a little.

but, strap in for some action in ep 3 and 4  and get your weapons loaded wink. have I actually said ANYTHING that made sense right now? I dunno... blame it on the 3.5 shots of 24-heroin in my veins wink

Re: 7x01 - 7x02 Discussion / 8:00am - 10:00am

i thought the ending to episode 2 was brilliant, they didn't over do the fight scene, but the way Jack said "what the hell happened to you". Brilliant stuff.

Another thing that i am so happy about was that awful line that Renee says "Torture him if you have to" , it sounded so forced and out of place, 24 isn't about torture, it never has been. Im glad that didn't make the final version, i was set to cringe as she said "do what you have to" but all was good. I thought there was some very talented actors in the first two episodes, also Emmerson is from a uk tv programme, lol.

Well they have certainly captured the feel of old 24, to me it feels like Season 1 and 3 mixed. Awesome stuff.

I am glad too, james. though you will see in an ep not so far away that she has learned from jack.. I'll say no more wink.

and I agree, they're back to the good stuff.

Re: 7x01 - 7x02 Discussion / 8:00am - 10:00am

Overall I thought they dealt with the issue of torture very well. Clearly they needed to change of attitude in some way toward it, but they could not have turned round and said "it's wrong!", but to go in to that scene with Renee saying what she said and your not sure if she's just saying it for the the benefit of the suspect or if they is taking back what she said in the corridor, so your not sure if Jack would have really done it. Good stuff.

Also, another point I want to go back and double check, but it seemed like their where a lot of knowing references to old 24, so many that I almost didn't see some really obvious ones. (Trying to convince a journalist not to air/publish a story for example)

Good stuff, but I can't watch 3 and 4 yet unfortunately.

Re: 7x01 - 7x02 Discussion / 8:00am - 10:00am

yes, there were many references to past things, and that continues in 3 and 4. some people will feel that is rehashing again, i'd say. it depends on the point of view really. personally, i didn't mind.

i dont think it's rehashing, just bringing back good elements from the earlier seasons. If thats rehashing then bring it on. lol

Re: 7x01 - 7x02 Discussion / 8:00am - 10:00am

Finally got a bit of time to review the first five episodes, so figured I'd just give my good and bad points of the episodes.

Good Points:

-The court scene. Basically sticking two fingers up at anyone who has complained about the use of torture in the past.
-Tony's back. Great reveal, great fight scene with Jack.
-The plane crash plotline. Ok it's a complete rip-off of Die Hard 2- with bits of Die Hard 4 thrown in for good measure, but it was nicely paced cleverly executed and didn't require big explosions to make it work.

Bad Points:

-The FBI. CTU by any other name would still be as irritating. While I understand the point of refreshing things, the four main characters seem like carbon copies of ex-CTU team members and with the exception of Renee Walker feel strangely under-developed in a well-rounded season.
-The FBI mole. Again we're treading over old ground, the one saving grace is that haven't played their hands too early and revealed who it is within an episode.
