Actors You Wish Got A Better Part On 24?

Just seeing a couple of old clips from 24 down the years recently, and I started to realise how many great actors who have been on the show, without neccesarily giving a great performance because they don't get enough screentime, or their character isn't written particularly well, or perhaps they've simply been mis cast.

So I thought i'd throw open the question of, which actors can you remember being slightly disappointed with their roles on the show, because you've seen them give better performances else where?

For me, two that instantly come to mind are Henry Ian Cusick who played Theo Stoller in 2 episodes of Series 5, a decent role actually, just that he really deserved more time, his performances on Lost show just how good be could have been as a semi-regular on the show.

Mark Sheppard, who was in the first 6 episodes of Series 5 as Ivan Erwich, one of the early terrorist plotters, and either he was horribly mis-cast or the writing he was given was terrible, but his performance overall wasn't much to write home about, anyway I nervously held my breath when he was later cast in a critical but small role in my beloved Battlestar Galactica, but I need not have been nervous since when cast correctly and given some brilliant writing he is a truely amazing actor, why oh why wasn't this drawn out of him in 24 still baffles me slightly.

Anyone, have any more?

Michael O'Neill as Richard Walsh most definitely. I understand why they had to kill him off but at the same time he established himself as a superb character.

Oddly perhaps, Eric Balfour as Milo Pressman. Now my argument here is that, yes they brought him back in season 6, but they took away everything that we'd learned to love in s1 and made him this irritating, whiny, high-school like muppet.

Possibly more of Xander Berkeley and Paul Schulze as well, only becasue I think they got the characters to a level where we as a viewer were just beginning to understand and appreciate the characters for who they were and then they were killed off.

Agree with you on Theo Stoller, although I think it's very unlikely to happen despite his "I'm not going to forget this" type exit line.

Oh yeah, he I believe is the main reason a pre-season 1 prequel with more Walsh would have rocked.

Yeah, his change in S6 illustrated how different a lot of the writing was, how slightly unrealistic the world of CTU had become as a workplace. Since they had to change his character so much in order for it to fit, if that makes sense.

Yeah, agree, although perhaps there is an argument for both that without their dying storylines, would they have gotten to that level? - For both I would have been a lot happier if both Actors got to do a DVD episode commentary on their final episode. Paul Schulze particularly.

Perhaps the line should have been "i'm not going to forget this, unless I get a better gig elsewhere, then it'll cost them a fortune to get me back"

To add twoo slightly unserious ones, I reckon Ricky Gervais cameo (it's only on the S6 DVD) and Stephen Merchants cameo could have been extended.

Okay, you might disagree with me on this, but Ricky Schroder's character should have been a more or less 1-to-1 replacement for Roger Cross'es.

But, as was endemic to season 6, everything that could have made the show good was ignored, in favor of some poorly staged action, or some lame-*ss sideplot that neuters a perfectly good villain, and may or may not have killed him!

Sorry, got all season 6 angry again.  Everytime I think about it, I just get steaming mad...  roll

I aim to misbehave.

Yes, Ricky Schroder's character was introduced at a bad time I thought, he was always gonna face an up hill struggle to make an impression I think. At the very least he deserved a better exit than he got

Not to get you all steamed up again?, but who was the perfectly good villain that got neutered?

Also, I can't decide if Sean Astin (Lynn McGill, Series 5) deserves on this list, defintely he should have gotten a subplot that was better than the drug addict sister.

I wish Nina could have not died in season 3, and I would have liked to see more teri...but thats just me... tongue

Re: Actors You Wish Got A Better Part On 24?

ok, who's ricky shroeder? ok. went on imdb. HIM? you want more of him? nah. he was so goddamn annoying that I was probably dancing when he died...  he was always just going to be another rock in jack's way that will have to be moved for jack to pass...

and as for theo, as much as it was fun for jack to to what he did, hey, we got him as desmond in LOST so that's fine by me! lol.

guys like gaines and saunders, though great villains, they were always going to be temporary, and like everything, villains have a (very short) shelf life... so I actually fear that they wouldn't have left such a lasting impression, had they stayed on for long.

personally, you know what I think about tony, he should never have been killed off, so yeah, tony's part should have been an everlasting and undying one. and no, don't get me started on that.

but as far as serious statements go, richard walsh, definitely. I almost wish they'd killed chappelle instead of walsh and brought walsh in more... though, I wonder, if they had in fact done that, would walsh have become chappelle? probably. and uhm.. who else.. haven't watched the show in such a long time... definitely not kim. lol. milo, yeah, i guess. bringing him back in s6 (was it?) was as pointless as killing characters just for the sake of it has been, as he couldn't really find his place in what was left of CTU, and got killed off anyway. and I must stop here, otherwise I'll get all angry and worked up thinking about how many ppl they've brought back just to kill them. pointless. murderers.

Re: Actors You Wish Got A Better Part On 24?

I wish Walsh had more parts too.when he died he was like one of the first to die in the season and we didnt know much about him but I still felt bad when he died because you could tell that Jack cared for him.McGill,I think he needed to stay on longer even another season perhaps,I know he seemed alot like a jerk at first but you start to warm up to him later on.But he did die honorably at least.as for Kim no one wants her back.Stoller,i felt bad at what jack did but he had too and they left him opened for a return maybe so im hoping to see him someday.as for milo i dont think they should have ever brought him back or at least not the way they did.Aaron Pierce is a great character and i am glad they gave him more parts in s5 but then they pretty much took him away from us in s6 i dont understand it.well thats all i have to say for now.oh yeah i forgot michelle should have never died either.

Messenger bags owe Jack Bauer for single-handedly stealing them from the clutches of emo fashion and making them genuinely cool.  Same thing with hoodies.  And crying.

If Jack Bauer,Solid Snake,Jill Valentine, and Master Chief were in a Deathmatch Jack would win.
