Favorite Lyrics - or just good ones

I've just rediscovered this song. It's likely you don't know it, so I'll share it. It's from the Bon Jovi box set released 3 years ago and it's the song Jon allowed Richie to sing - sends goose bumps down my spine just listening to Richie's voice on it. and then the lyrics... *thud*

If I can't have your love

It's hard to remember a time
When I didn't have you, when I didn't have nothing
but a cold bed to come to at night
That was all I knew, until there was you
And then you took my world and turned it all around
I couldn't live without you now

Baby, if I can't have your love
Baby, if I can't feel your touch I got nothing
Baby, if I can't taste your kiss then I don't exist
I got nothing

No I can't imagine living life without you
I can't imagine living life without your love

I wake up with you by my side
I can't let go, I can't even bear the thought of you in another man's eyes
I would lose control, I would die
'Cause now you're in my heart and I can't let you out
I gotta keep you here somehow

Baby, if I can't have your love
If I can't feel your touch I got nothing
Baby, if I can't taste your kiss then I don't exist
I got nothing
If I can't be your man, I wouldn't know who I am
I got nothing
I got nothing

No, I can't imagine living life without you
I can't imagine living life without your love

[piano]

'Cause I can't imagine living life without you
Can't imagine living life without your love
Believe me baby I don't mean to doubt you
But if you ever leave, that would be the end of me, baby

Baby, if I can't feel your touch I got nothing
If I can't taste your kiss then I don't exist
I got nothing
I got nothing
Baby, if I can't be your man, I wouldn't know who I am
I'd be nothing
Baby, if I can't have your love
If I can't feel your touch
I got nothing

No, I can't imagine living life without you
I can't imagine living life without your love

Now if that's not a strong, mature, powerful love song.

Re: Favorite Lyrics - or just good ones

the times they are a-changin' by bob dylan, from the album of the same name

The song which just recenly got me listening to bob dylan, and ratherly oddly got my dad listening to him (... 40 years ago)

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Re: Favorite Lyrics - or just good ones

great song, I know it, too. guess no-one else has favorite songs. lol. I never had the wish to see dylan live though, dunno why. but one story that always comes to my mind is jon bon jovi explaining what the first record was that he'd bought as a kid, and it was a song of dylan's, "just like a woman". having heard that, I started looking for the song and found that I liked it, too. hehe. and then bon jovi sang it once in an unplugged gig or something. it was a good moment smile

Yeah, it's one of those songs I could honestly listen to on a loop. Also had that odd quality when I first heard it that I was mad that it's taken 20 years to hear it.

Re: Favorite Lyrics - or just good ones

well after much thought, i have to choose all along the watchtower, written by Bob Dylan, but i think it was best performed by Jimi Hendrix, as his solos to me added a second voice as you will. So here are the lyrics.

There must be some kind of way out of here
Said the joker to the thief
Theres too much confusion
I cant get no relief
Businessman they drink my wine
Plow men dig my earth
None will level on the line
Nobody of it is worth
Hey hey

No reason to get excited
The thief he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke but uh
But you and I weve been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hours getting late
Hey

Hey

All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Bare-foot servants to, but huh
Outside in the cold distance
A wild cat did growl
Two riders were approachin
And the wind began to howl
Hey
Oh
All along the watchtower
Hear you sing around the watch
Gotta beware gotta beware I will
Yeah
Ooh baby
All along the watchtower

Re: Favorite Lyrics - or just good ones

ok, I'm resurrecting this one cause I've found my new heart-breaker. and by one Alice Cooper, of all things! the song really breaks my heart cause it's from the album he wrote while in rehab (actually back then in the 70s it was a mental hospital ppl checked themselves in) where he checked himself in for alcoholism. and this song portrays his fear of coming home with such honesty and pain that it really hurts. so I'm posting it here , and it's on youtube, too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GaSosY7iDM
skip the first 57 seconds or so of the three guys talking wink

How You Gonna See Me Now

Dear darlin' surprised to hear from me?
Bet you're sittin' drinkin' coffee, yawnin' sleepily
Just to let you know
I'm gonna be home soon
I'm kinda awkward and afraid
Time has changed your point of view

How you gonna see me now?
Please don't see me ugly babe
'Cause I know I let you down
In oh so many ways
How you gonna see me now
Since we've been on our own
Are you gonna love the man
When the man gets home?

Listen darlin' now I'm heading for the west
Straightened out my head but my old heart is still a mess
Yes I'm worried honey
Guess that's natural though
It's like I'm waiting for a welcome sign
Like a hobo in the snow

How you gonna see me now?
Please don't see me ugly babe
'Cause I know I let you down
In oh so many ways
How you gonna see me now
Since we've been on our own
Are you gonna love the man
When the man gets home?

And just like the first time
We're just strangers again
I might have grown out of style
In the place I've been
And just like the first time
I'll be shakin' inside
When I walk in the door
There'll be no place to hide

How you gonna see me now?
Please don't see me ugly babe
'Cause I know I let you down
In oh so many ways
How you gonna see me now
Since we've been on our own
Are you gonna love the man
When the man gets home?

And as a Tony fan, it somehow also feels like what Tony might have felt like if Michelle had stuck with him and sent him to rehab... *sob*

Re: Favorite Lyrics - or just good ones

I like Venessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles", a good Tony/Michelle song!  Anyone else heard it?  it's kind of old; 1990's i think...

Michelle Dessler: I'll go anywhere with you... as long as I don't have to cook.

Tony Almeida: Sweetheart, if you promise not to cook I will take you with me anywhere

Re: Favorite Lyrics - or just good ones

Madagascar - Guns N' Roses, seen this song performed live on two occasions, simply brilliant.

I won't be told anymore
That I've been brought down in this storm
And left so far out from the shore
That I can't find my way back, my way anymore

No I won't be told anymore
That I've been brought back in this storm
And left so far out from the shore
That I can't find my way back, my way anymore

No, I..
No, I...

Forgive that they teared down my soul
Bless them that they might grow old
A dream that's forgotten may know
That it's never too late

So many times that I've seen life before me
I searched and found the way to choose to the end
I found a way, to know, why it had to be
Mired in denial and saw all the rain

If we ever find it true
Love will have its way to choose
Three more to tame
We can be ever

(Quotes)

I won't be told anymore
That I've been brought down in this storm
And left so far out from the shore
And I can't find my way back, my way anymore

No I won't be told anymore
That I've been brought back in this storm
And left so far out from the shore
That I can't find my way back, my way anymore
