Who's this guy?

OK, so I'm new to 24.  Never watched it over all these years but decided to give it a shot so I've rented season 1.

Loved it.  Great show.  Now I just need to catch up to the latest 7? 

I don't know if this is already common knowledge but in the last episode of season 1, at the shootout, who's this guy?

This occurs at 15 minutes 25 seconds into the last episode on the DVD

I'm fairly certain it's a camera man. that odd helmet thing is to protect him from the squibs (fake gun shots) going off, and over the other side of Jack, behind him you can see what I believe is his camera.

I agree with what you wrote... you're exactly right... it's basically a mistake.
